The photographer

I have been an amateur photographer for about thirty years and I work mainly in Switzerland. My passion for photography was preceded by an equally intense passion for aviation. Fascinated by flight, I would set off with my small Yashica reflex camera to attend airshows, capturing a profusion of images—often close-up details that allowed me to delve into the heart of the aircraft—on Kodachrome 64 or Ektachrome 400 film.

For years, passion for flight and passion for photography did not find the integration I sensed was possible. It seemed to me that flight could become a subject for photography, and photography a medium to reveal the beauty of flight.

Over the years, without abandoning my love for aviation, the fluidity of birds and their unparalleled ability to integrate into the aerial environment inspired me to capture the many facets of their flight. When a bird grants us the gift of sharing a moment of its daily life—through its proximity, its image, and often even its attention—it is as though, for that instant, the third dimension becomes accessible to us.
